Police Tero's hopes of survival in Thai League 1 took a severe beating when they lost 2-0 at Sukhothai on Saturday night.
Police remained riveted to the foot of the table with just 25 points from 28 matches. With only two games remaining this season, their chances of staying put in the top flight look remote.
The result also brought a welcome relief for Sukhothai coach Katepong Kulnartsiri.
"We had to win this game. We had gone three matches without any point and could not afford to drop more points," Katepong said.
"It's an important result for us, but we'll have to be at our best in our two remaining matches."
The Fire Bats got their first goal through Nelson Bonilla in the 25th minutes and Ryohei Arai wrapped up the scoring with a strike just after the hour mark.
Meanwhile, Ratchaburi were handed a 2-1 home defeat by Muang Thong United on Saturday night.
The Kirins shifted gears in the second half and Willian Popp converted a 57th-minute penalty after Sanchan Nontasila had fouled Tristan Do inside the box.
Muang Thong's second goal came two minutes later when Poramet Arjvilai put the ball in the net. Ratchaburi's only goal was scored by Korawich Tasa in the 83rd minute.
Also on Saturday night, Chiang Rai United and Nakhon Pathom United played out a goalless draw.
