Kunlavut Vitidsarn and mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai advanced to the quarter-finals of the US$420,000 (approximately 17.4 million baht) BWF Toyota Thailand Open 2024 at Nimibutr Stadium yesterday.
Men’s singles fourth seed Kunlavut battled past Leong Jun Hao of Malaysia 20-22, 21-14, 23-21 to set up a last-eight clash with Meiraba Luwang Maisnam of India at the World Tour Super 500 event.
Top seeds Dechapol and Sapsiree, meanwhile, defeated Roy King Yap and Valeree Siow of Malaysia 21-11, 21-16. They will play Jafar Hidayatullam and Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata of Indonesia in the quarters.
However women’s singles hope Ratchanok Intanon suffered a shock loss, falling to Gao Fengjie of China 18-21, 21-19, 14-21.
Busanan Ongbamrungphan also exited the tournament after she retired with an injury during her match against Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
Sixth seed Supanida Katethong beat fellow Thai Pitchamon Opatniputh 21-13, 21-16 and will play Tunjung in the last eight.
Pornpawee Chochuwong joined Supanida in the quarters after she beat Kim Joo-Eun of South Korea 21-16, 21-12.
She will play Ratchanok’s conqueror Gao for a place in the semi-finals.
Women’s doubles top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai edged Keng Shuliang and Zhang Chi of China 21-18, 16-21, 21-10 to also make it to the last eight.
Mixed doubles pairs Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran and Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat also reached the quarter-finals.
Fourth seeds Supak and Supissara will play fifth seeds Guo Zinwa and Chen Fanghui of China while Ruttanapak and Jhenicha will meet seventh seeds Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati of Indonesia.
