Pornpawee Chochuwong, Supanida Katethong and Kunlavut Vitidsarn moved into the semi-finals of the US$420,000 (approximately 17.4 million baht) BWF Toyota Thailand 2024 at Nimibutr Stadium yesterday.
Eighth seed Pornpawee rallied to beat Gao Fengjie of China 10-21, 21-16, 21-12 while sixth seed Supanida also staged a comeback against Gregoria Mariska Tunjung to beat the Indonesian star 14-21, 22-20, 22-20 in the women's singles quarter-finals.
The women's singles semi-finals will be a battle between Thai and Chinese players as Pornpawee will take on top seed Han Yue while Supanida will play second seed and Asian champion Wang Zhiyi.
"I am so happy that I've made it to the final," said Pornpawee. "I played poorly in the first game, missing a lot of shots. Fortunately I managed to bounce back in the second and third games and won the match."
Defending champion Kunlavut cruised past Meiraba Luwang Maisnam of India 21-12, 21-5. The fourth seed will face Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong in the last four.
Sixth seed Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia will face eighth seed Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan in the other semi-final match today.
Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai also advanced to the semi-finals and will play fellow Thais Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat for a place in the title match.
Dechapol and Sapsiree defeated Jafar Hidayatullah and Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata of Indonesia 21-17, 21-11.
Ruttanapak and Jhenicha upset seventh seeds Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati of Indonesia 21-16, 16-21, 22-20.
Women's doubles top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai progressed to the semi-finals with a 21-6, 22-20 victory over Li Yijing and Luo Xumin of China.
