Ratchanok Intanon, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan advanced to the last 16 of the US$420,000 BWF Malaysia Masters 2024 in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Fourth seed Ratchanok defeated Thet Htar Thuzar of Myanmar 21-13, 21-14 to set up a last 16 clash with Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia at the World Tour Super 500 event.

Ratchanok, who lost in the last 16 at the Thailand Open last week, is chasing her third title in the Malaysian capital. She won the tournament in 2018 and 2019.

Busanan, meanwhile, survived a tough opener against Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, needing three games to overcome the Dane 21-12, 14-21, 21-16. She will next play Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia.

Eighth seed Pornpawee defeated Huang Yu-hsun of Taiwan 21-18, 21-16 and will meet China's Gao Fengjie next.

Men's singles player Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul was also through to the last 16 after he edged past Chi Yu-jen of Taiwan 21-16, 10-21, 21-19.

Men's doubles duo Peeratchai Sukphan and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul progressed after beating Law Cheuk Him and Yeung Shing Choi of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-16.

Meanwhile women's top seed Han Yue, a finalist in the Thailand Open on Sunday, came through her first round match with a 21-14, 21-9 win over Karupathevan Letshanaa of Malaysia while fifth seed Pusarla V Sindhu of India defeated Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-17, 21-16.

Third seed Zhang Beiwen of the US and sixth seed Zhang Yiman of China also advanced.

In the men's singles event, top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark eased past Koki Watanabe of Japan 21-14, 21-11 and seventh seed Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan downed Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 21-14, 21-17.
