Thailand claimed their first win of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League 2024 in Macau on Tuesdady

Competing in Pool 3 during the second competition week of the preliminary phase of the annual tournament, Thailand recorded a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 26-24) victory over Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

Thailand, the hosts of this year's VNL Finals in Bangkok, headed into the match on the back of five straight losses against the Caribbean side, dating back to 2018.

Thailand had a disastrous opening week, losing all four matches in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earlier this month.

However, the Thais, coached by Nataphon Srisamutnak, put on an impressive performance against the Dominicans in Macau with middle blocker Hattaya Bamrungsuk leading the Thai attack with 17 points (13 kills, two blocks and two aces).

Outside hitter Wipawee Srithong added 16 points (15 kills and one block) and captain Thatdao Nuekjang, another middle blocker, scored 14 (12 kills, one block and one ace).

Gonzalez Lopez was the Dominicans' top scorer with 20 points (18 kills, two blocks). Pena Isabel had 18 points (17 kills, one block).

Thailand welcomed back Ajcharaporn Kongyot into the squad after the experienced outside hitter missed the first week of action in Brazil due to illness.

They will play their second match against France on Friday. The match will be televised live on Channel 7HD, starting at 11.30am.
