The Asian BMX Continental Championships 2024 will begin today at BMX Kamol Sports Park.

The two-day event is the final course in the BMX competition, which offers ranking points for cyclists who are chasing the Paris Olympics berths.

"There are more than 100 cyclists from South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand participating in the championship category in the final course," said Gen Decha Hemkrasi, president of the Thai Cycling Association.

"Meanwhile in the challenge event there are more than 400 club level cyclists from Asian countries and Thailand.

"The opening ceremony will take place tomorrow morning and the competition will begin with the challenge qualifying round for all categories. The final rounds will be held tomorrow," he added.

The list for the Paris Olympics qualifiers will be announced by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the sport's world governing body, on June 2.

Two-time Asian champion Komet Sukprasert, who has already qualified for Paris 2024, is attempting to win his third successive title at the event following his victories in 2022 and 2023.
