Thai BMX star Komet Sukprasert is chasing his third Asian title at the Asian BMX Continental Championships 2024 at Kamol Sports Park today.

If successful, Komet will complete a hat-trick of the continental titles following his victories in 2022 and 2023.

"I am now 100 percent fit and ready for the competition," said Komet after yesterday's training.

Komet, who has already qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, is in a confident mood despite the strong challenge from overseas competitors.

"I am familiar with most of the foreign competitors from Japan and the Philippines. As a two-time Asian champion, I am hoping to win my third title at home to complete a hat-trick," he added

The opening ceremony yesterday was presided over by the president of the Thai Cycling Association, Gen Decha Hemkrasri, and Dato Amajit Singh Gil, a member of the UCI Executive Board Committee.

"This year's competition has attracted a large number of competitors, with more than 500 cyclists taking part in the tournament," said Gen Decha.

"Komet, who has already qualified for the Paris Olympic Games, will try to win his third Asian title tomorrow, while the women's cyclists will face tough competition as well."

Yesterday's competition was the qualifiers for the challenge event, which selected the best eight cyclists to compete in the final round today.

Today's finals for both the challenge event and the championship event will start at 10.45am. The two-day event is the final course in the BMX competition, which offers ranking points for cyclists who are chasing Paris 2024 berths.
