Thai star Pornpawee Chochuwong moved into the quarter-finals of the US$850,000 BWF Singapore Open yesterday.

Pornpawee upset the sixth seed, Han Yue of China, 21-11, 21-7, and will play third seed Carolina Marin in the last eight of the World Tour Super 750 event.

Spain's Marin downed Pusarla V Sindhu of India 13-21, 21-11, 22-20.

Fellow Thai Busanan Ongbamrungphan failed to advance, losing to China's second seed Chen Yufei 15-21, 17-21.

Chen will play either fifth seed Akane Yamaguchi or Tomoka Miyazaki in the quarters.

Women's doubles pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai bowed out to sixth seeds Kim So-Yeong and Kong Hee-Yong of South Korea 21-23, 21-23.

Rising star in women's singles, Pornpicha Choeikeewong, was to play Chinese seventh seed Wang Zhiyi while mixed doubles stars Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran, who stunned the world No.2 pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping in the first round, were to face Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch of Denmark in late matches.

In the men's singles event, Denmark's top seed Viktor Axelsen edged past Taiwan's Lin Chun-yi 21-16, 14-21, 21-16; China's second seed Shi Yuqi beat compatriot Weng Hongyang 21-12, 21-12; Malaysia's Leong Jun Hao upset Indonesia's seventh seed Anthony Ginting 21-14, 10-21, 21-8 and Japan's fifth seed Kodai Naraoka defeated Indonesia's Chico Aura dwi Wardoyo 17-21, 21-9, 21-12.

Also, top seed An Se-Young of South Korea defeated Hsu Wen-chi of Taiwan 21-23, 21-11, 21-19; Nozomi Okuhara of Japan eliminated eighth seed He Bingjiao of China 18-21, 23-21, 21-16 and Gregoria Tunjung of Indonesia ousted Pai Yu-po of Taiwan 21-10, 21-16 in the women's singles last 16.
