Men's doubles pair Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren bowed out in the first round of the US$1.3 million BWF Indonesia Open in Jakarta yesterday.

The Thai duo lost to Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 21-19, 12-21, 13-21 at the World Tour Super 1000 event.

Ahsan and Setiawan will next face either second seeds Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang or Xie Haonan and Zeng Weihan, both from China.

Women's singles hope Ratchanok Intanon was due to play her first round match against Aakarshi Kashyap of India later yesterday.

Third seed Carolina Marin advanced after the Spanish lefthander beat Zhang Yiman of China 21-16, 21-18 while seventh seed Han Yue of China defeated Zhang Beiwen of the United States 21-18, 16-21, 21-19.

India's Pusarla V Sindhu exited the tournament after losing to Hsu Wen-chi of Taiwan 15-21, 21-15, 14-21.

Men's singles second seed Shi Yuqi, the Singapore Open winner on Sunday, beat his Chinese compatriot Lei Lanxi 21-16, 21-13.

But Jonatan Christie became the highest seed to bow out after the Indonesian third seed lost to Leong Jun Hao of Malaysia 13-21, 21-16, 12-21.

In other men's singles openers, Toma Popov Junior of France edged Wang Tzu-wei of Taiwan 21-15, 12-21, 29-27, Rasmus Gemke of Denmark knocked out fifth seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan 21-12, 21-10 and Lu Guangzu of China rallied past Su Li-yang of Taiwan 14-21, 21-19, 21-17.
