Veteran Boonchu wins PTT Thailand Senior Tour title

Veteran star Boonchu Ruangkit has won the PTT Thailand Senior Tour Open 2012 in Chiang Mai.

The 56-year-old golfer posted a final 66 to win by four shots on a 14-under-par 202 total at the 54-hole tournament on Saturday.

The runner-up spot went to Frankie Minosa of the Philippines on 206 while Ricky Gibson was a stroke further down on third place.

Jamnian Jitprasong of Thailand came in fourth on 210.

Receiving the winner's cheque of 560,000 baht at the five-million baht tournament, Boonchu said he was still enjoying playing golf even though he will turn 57 in May.

Five-time European Senior Tour winner Boonchu also announced that he plans to play in Europe, Japan and Asia this year.

His first event on the European Tour will be the US Senior PGA Championship in Michigan, USA from May 24-27.

The veteran won the Order of Merit on that tour in 2010 when he claimed four titles.

Troubled by a back injury last season, he managed to win at the Travis Perkins Plc Senior Masters in England and finished the year in sixth place on the money list.

This week, Boochu will take part in the Asian Tour's Panasonic Open in India.

Meanwhile Nontaya Srisawang had a final round to forget in Japan as she suffered a 77 at the LAGT's Yumeya Dream Cup.

The title went to Yu Pei Lin of Taiwan who closed with a 70 and won by a single shot on 218.

Local golfer Megumi Shimokawa finished second after a tense finish.

Thailand's Rungtiwa Pangjan (79) and Tanaporn Kongkiatkrai (75) tied for 24th place on 228.
