Thaworn rallies to win Singha Watermill title

Veteran Thaworn Wiratchant rallied from a stroke behind to win by four shots at the Thai PGA Tour Singha Watermill Championship in Nakhon Nayok yesterday.

The 46-year-old hit a five-under-par 66 with five birdies in a bogey-free round for a total of 19-under 265 at Watermill Golf and Garden.

Sutijet Kooratanapisan, who held a one-shot advantage after three rounds, came in second on 269 following a 71 while Pakistan's Nadem Inyat (67) finished third on 271.

A stroke behind the leader going into the final round, Thaworn stormed to a four-shot lead after nine holes and was never threatened. Thaworn earned 200,000 baht in prize money while Sutijet received 106,000 baht.

Pavit Tangkamolprasert, who was seeking his third title on the tour this year, scored a 71 for 272, while Prin Sirisommai won the amateur title on 284 after a 70.

The next Thai PGA Tour event will be held at Plutaluang golf course in Chon Buri from May 23-26.

Meanwhile, Nontaya Srisawang cruised to a seven-stroke win at the second Singha-SAT Thai LPGA Championship after firing a four-under-par 68 for 204.

Playing at Lakewood Country Club where she won the Thailand Ladies Open in February, Nontaya performed confidently at the 54-hole event and took home 71,000 baht.

Walailak Satalak finished second on 211 while Titiya Pluckstaporn came in third on 212. The amateur title went to Chatprapha Siriprakob (222).

Nontaya, 24, will now play in five events on the Ladies European Tour starting at the German Open next week.
