The 17-year-old, who turned pro two months ago, beat amateur Kanyalak Preedasuttijit, 16, at the first play-off hole.

The teenagers both finished on 12-under 204 after 54 holes.

The third place went to amateur Supamas Sangchan who closed with a one-under 71 for 206 while Janya Morrakotpan (67) came in fourth on 207.

With a three-stroke advantage after two rounds, Sherman struggled in the final round of the eighth tournament of the season on the Thai LPGA Tour.

She got a final-hole eagle for 72 to force a play-off against Kanyalak who closed with a 64 at Watermill Golf and Garden.

Former national team player Sherman, who won 71,900 baht in prize money, said that it was a good start to her professional career.

“It will boost my confidence,’’ said Sherman, who also took the runner-up spot in the previous Thai LPGA event in Hua Hin last month.

“My professional career has just begun and my target is to qualify for the LPGA Tour later this year,’’ Sherman said.

The next event of the Singha-SAT Thai LPGA Championship 2014 will be held at Kabinburi Sport Club in Prachin Buri from July 23-25.
