Thongchai climbs to 36th

Thongchai Jaidee moved up to 36th place in the world after his runner-up finish at the Thailand Classic on Sunday.

The six-time European Tour winner was joint second, one shot behind champion Andrew Dodt at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin.

The result pushed him to 36th from 39th in the latest world ranking.

The Lop Buri native said his target this year was to finish higher in the world ranking than his 37th at the end of last year.

"I am happy with my performance so far this year," Thongchai said.

"But my putting still needs improvement if I want to win this year."

Last year, Thongchai shot to a career high 33rd place after the British Open. He also finished 22nd in the Race to Dubai.

In his first three tournaments this year, Thongchai was joint 23rd at the Qatar Masters, 35th at the Dubai Desert Classic and 20th at the Malaysian Open.

Thongchai is taking a three-week break before return to action at the March 5-8 WGC-Cadillac Championship where he was sixth last year.

Meanwhile, Kiradech Aphibarnrat moved from 146th to 130th following his joint fourth at the Thailand Classic.
