Pheu Thai candidate for Bangkok governor Pongsapat Pongcharoen offered another public transport policy, while the Democrat's MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra integrated an unusual technological trick into his campaign as their election rivalry continues to simmer.
Pol Gen Pongsapat wrote on his Facebook page on Monday that he plans to develop ticketing cards that can be used for multiple public transportation similar to London's "Oyster Card", used by about 80% of people in England's capital to access the underground, buses and trains.
He said the new card will function like an electronic card currently issued by both the BTS skytrain and the MRT subway train. This will make travelling by means of public transport much more convenient, he added.
The No.9 candidate said he will bike to work if he gets elected, to set an example as a government official, and improve bicycle lanes.
Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and candidate MR Sukhumbhand revealed that people will be able to view digital information which has been superimposed onto Democrats’ election banners and posters using a smart phone application called 'MAYAR'.
'MAYAR' is a program by Innovation which can convert printed materials into interactive multimedia.
MR Sukhumbhand said the idea is part of the "i-Bangkok" campaign which, within two years, will be integrated with tourism sectors such as hotel and restaurant services.
The No.16 candidate said that about 5,000 new 4MB hi-speed wi-fi hotspots will also be created at schools, libraries and public parks.
The use of smart phone apps will also be expanded so that people in Bangkok can conveniently do 24-hour transactions with the government without having to travel, the former governor said.
He said 30 new bike routes will be constructed along with changing rooms and bathrooms to accommodate cyclists.
