PT meets Monday on charter change

The Pheu Thai Party will call a meeting of its MPs on Monday to discuss which of the charter amendment drafts will be taken up for deliberation first on Aug 20, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said on Sunday.

The parliament president has issued an order calling for a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Senate on Tuesday to consider the three charter amendment drafts now on the parliamentary agenda.

Mr Prompong said the party had initially planned to take up the draft which concerns the qualifications and origins of senators for deliberation first. The other drafts also on the parliamentary agenda - one to amend Section 190 on international agreements and to amend Sections 68 and 237 on the dissolution of political parties - would be considered later, he added.

The party MPs would also discuss the deliberation of the remaining sections of the 2014 Budget Bill in the second reading. A possible date for the resumption of the budget bill debate was Aug 29, he said.

The House last week passed 18 of the 35 sections of the budget bill.
