The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is tracking down a senior doctor in Nakhon Pathom province who has been selling abortion pills online for years, with sales of about 600 million baht.
Nithit Phurikhup, DSI director for cyber crime, said on Friday the doctor led a gang that sold Cytolog and MTPill tablets, which had been known to cause the death of some users. DSI officials had already searched eight premises and arrested three suspects.
"Interrogators are seeking a warrant for the arrest of the senior doctor," he said. "The number of buyers of these drugs is rising. Each month 2,000-3,000 people have ordered these abortion pills online, and this is a big concern," he said.
DSI director-general Paisit Wongmuang said two suspects had been arrested and charged for the same crime in 2014 and had been given a suspended penalty by the court.
They had sold abortion pills through 27 websites for 5-6 years, with total sales of around 600 million baht, he said.
The DSI did not identify any of the suspects or the wanted doctor.
