NARATHIWAT - A stolen motorcycle was found secreted in a forest in Rangae district on Tuesday, with a fertiliser bomb, shotgun, ammunition and grenades concealed nearby.
A team of paramilitary rangers and a sniffer dog were dispatched to search the forest at Kalukho village in tambon Bo-ngo following a tip-off that insurgents had assembled bombs in the area.
They found a motorcycle hidden in the undergrowth, and two fertiliser bags about 50 metres away.
One of the bags contained a home-made bomb and an electronic circuit board. The other held a shotgun with five bullets, a loaded AK-47 bullet clip, a grenade and two ignition boxes.
Authorities said the motorcycle belonged to Suwanna Promka, who was shot dead and her bike stolen in this strife-torn southern province on July 29 this year. It was likely the stolen bike would have been used to carry a bomb.
Explosive ordnance disposal officers were called in to clear the area.
