Ten people who allegedly cheated during the police NCO entrance examination in Bangkok were arrested when they turned up to register to enter the force on Tuesday.

They were among 1,000 candidates who passed the Dec 4 exam. Successful candidates are required to report to the police club in Bangkok and register their acknowledgement that they have passed.

Of the 1,000 successful candidates, 52 face arrest warrants for allegedly cheating or being involved in cheating during the exam.

Ten were detained when they showed up to register as non-commissioned officers on Tuesday.

Pol Lt Col Sanit Mahathavorn, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, on Tuesday presided over the orientation ceremony. He said the 10 alleged cheats were taken to Phahon Yothin police station.

Police have also identified 32 more people involved in the exam scandal and were in the process of taking steps against them, Pol Lt Gen Sanit said.

The exam fraud came to light when the MPB's training centre lodged a complaint with Phahon Yothin police early this month, accusing more than 350 people of being involved in the complex fraud, many of them university students.
