PHUKET - An Australia jet skier died after a high-speed collision with another jet ski driven by her husband off Kata beach on this resort island.

The couple were riding the jet skis near Koh Pu off Kata beach, according to a statement given by the husband to the sea rescue centre of Karon Municipality.

The tourist was identified as Jayne Collie, aged 20.

Her husband, who withheld his full name, said strong sunlight reflected off the sea and made it impossible to see the jet ski of his wife, leading to the crash.

The injured tourist was brought back to the shore for first aid and later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital after rescuers and lifeguards found she had no pulse.

Medical staff from Vachira Phuket declared her dead before she reached the hospital.
