SONGKHLA – Two women died when their car plunged from the third floor of the parking building at a department store in Hat Yai on Thursday evening.
The car landed upside down, crushing the two occupants inside it. They were identified as Pattama Phudsri and Pornthip Boonsingsri, both residents of Thepha district.
Police said it appeared the vehicle had dropped from floor 3A of the parking building, where the steel railing was seen to have been damaged.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known, but the gear shift was found to be in the reverse position, police said. This suggested the driver had accidently shifted into the wrong gear when intending to leave.
Investigators would examine the building's security camera footage and the vehicle itself.
