KANCHANABURI - Thais with roots from the Mon tribe from Myanmar and Mon people celebrated the Songkran festival cherishing the traditional pot dance on Monday morning.
The traditional celebration was held at Wat Phu Takhien in tambon Tha Sao of Sai Yok district. Women put clay pots containing rainwater on their heads in a festive procession to the temple amidst the tom-tom music.
Men joining the celebration lied face-down on the ground for monks to walk on their backs to a tent where they were bathed by Mon men. The monks were later carried to be seated for a traditional Thai bathing ceremony for Songkran by locals and tourists.
Wat Phu Takhien is the only temple in the border district to hold the traditional ceremony.
