Naris tipped to be next navy commander

Assistant navy chief Naris Prathumsuwan has been tipped to become the next commander of the nation's maritime forces in the upcoming annual reshuffle, a navy source said yesterday.

Outgoing commander Adm Na Arreenich has nominated Adm Naris to succeed him when he retires on Sept 30, the source said. Adm Naris is due to retire in 2018.

Navy chief-of-staff Luechai Ruddit, also a strong candidate, has been nominated as deputy commander. He is expected to climb to the top post next year.

Vice Adm Pichet Tanaset, deputy chief-of-staff, has been nominated as chief-of-staff while Vice Adm Patchara Phumpichet, who serves in the same role, has been named assistant navy chief.

The three armed forces have reportedly already handed over their reshuffle lists to Gen Surapong Suwana-adth, chief of defence forces, with the top brass discussing promotions yesterday at the Defence Ministry.
