20 Roi Et districts declared disaster zones

ROI ET - Multiple areas in 20 districts of this northeastern province have been declared flood disaster zones, and water levels in the Chi, Yang and Sieo rivers are still high, provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office chief Sorawut Palawat said.

The disaster zones cover 1,766 villages in 159 tambons, home to 71,469 households.  Damage has occurred to 612,033 rai of farmland - mostly rice fields - and seven roads.  Eight temporary shelters have been set up to house flood evacuees.

According to Mr Sorawut, the hardest hit district is Selaphum.

Several rivers run through Roi Et province, so severe flooding was inevitable, he added.
