Prosecutors said on Monday they would decide later this month whether to indict a key disciple of Wat Phra Dhammakaya accused of instigating public disorder during the authorities' futile attempts to arrest former abbot Phra Dhammajayo last year.

Ong-art Thamnitha, spokesman for Wat Phra Dhammakaya’s disciples, is scheduled to report to the prosecution on Sept 27 and hear if he will be charged with inciting public unrest in violation of Section 116 of the Criminal Code.

Mr Ong-art reported to the Office of Attorney-General on Monday morning, when the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) handed over its case report to the prosecution.

He faced charges after he declared a nine-point stance, which he claimed to be on behalf of all followers of the temple, on Dec 11 last year as security officials were about to search the temple for the former abbot and founder, Phra Dhammajayo.

Mr Ong-art insisted on Monday he had no intent to incite chaos or to persuade the temple's followers to break any laws on that day.

He said his action was simply to present facts to the public, with no harm intended, and he would petition the prosecution seeking fair treatment in this case.

The disciples' spokesman said he has not met or heard from the missing former abbot, who is wanted on charges of money-laundering and receiving stolen property in connection with the multi-billion-baht Klongchan Credit Union embezzlement case.
