LAMPANG: Local residents found the bodies of two young men on Sunday morning near a railway in Hang Chat, with a badly damaged motorcycle lying nearby.

The two were later as Nathapol "Pond" Thapphet, 24, of Mae Phrik district, and Pratchaya "Nite" Duangboonma, 23, of Muang district.

The residents who found the bodies said they believed the motorcycle skidded off the road while negotiating a sharp bend and ran into a pile of metal bars from old, dismantled rail tracks.

Police were investigating to establish the cause of the accident.

Pictures of the accident and the deaths were posted on a Facebook page of a rescue network in Hang Chat district. The post drew sympathy from several people who knew the two men, saying they were close friends who were due to receive a degree in a commencement ceremony scheduled for next month.
