The legless body of a man was found floating in the Saen Saep canal in Hua Mak district of Bangkok on Saturday.

Hua Mak patrol police were alerted to the discovery near Ramkhamhaeng Soi 85/3 on Saturday afternoon. The body floating in the canal had been cut below the waist.

The man, aged around 40-45, appeared to have sustained head and stomach injuries with bruising around his right eye.

Police believed he had been dead for about two days, FM91 Trafficpro reported on its Facebook page.

Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Charnthep Sesawech said investigators were attempting to identify the man and to determine whether he was murdered or committed suicide. 

The latter cannot be ruled out as his injuries could have been caused by a boat propeller.

Pol Maj Gen Theerapong Wongratpithank, chief of the Metropolitan Police Division 4, believed the man might have been killed elswehere, as there were stab wounds on his back and head, and his body dumped in the canal.

Police will also check missing person reports filed during the past five days.
