Rocker Sek Loso gets 4 years for gun stunt

Notorious rock singer Seksan Sookpimay, aka Sek Loso, was sentenced to 2 years and 21 months (in separate cases) for resisting arrest, threatening police with a gun, drug abuse and had a suspended jail term revoked for assault, after his claim of suffering from bipolar disorder was rejected.

The Min Buri court in Bangkok handed down the sentence for the offences, which took place largely at his home in Bang Khen district on Dec 31, 2017.

At the end of last year, the 44-year-old singer, carrying a 9mm pistol, threatened to shoot police who were entering his house with a search warrant to arrest him.

After his eventual arrest, he was tested positive for methamphetamine use.

For the felonies committed on Dec 31, the court on Thursday sentenced Seksan to 1 year and 18 months in prison for drug abuse, illegal firearm possession and for resisting the arrest with a gun.

The police came to his house on that day to take him into custody after he fired nine shots into the air and one into the ground during a visit to a temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat province early on Dec 29, 2017.

For the shooting, the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial court had already sentenced him in March to five days in jail and fined him 5,000 baht. The case is still in the process of appeal.

The singer live-streamed a video of himself firing the shots in front of a statue of King Taksin the Great at Wat Khao Khun Phanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Dec 29, shortly after performing at a concert there.

He claimed to be paying respect to King Taksin.

He was arrested at his house in Bangkok's Bang Khen district on Dec 31 following a showdown with police.

The Min Buri court on Thursday revoked the suspension of an earlier jail term of one year and three months for Seksan's physical assault on his ex-wife's close friend.

That would add his sentence two year and 21 months in prison term.

"The defendant lacked respect for the law and the court gave him a chance by suspending a jail term in another case," the court said.

"However, he offended again while serving the suspended jail term.

"The court disagreed with claims that Seksan suffered from bipolar disorder," said the court.
