KHON KAEN: An HIV-infected army sergeant-major has been arrested in Nam Phong district for allegedly raping 75 young teenage boys from other provinces, lured into meeting him by handsome pictures posted on social media.

SM1 Jakkrit Khomsing, 43, of the 3rd Cavalry Division in Nam Phong, was taken into custody at his house on Wednesday, Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn, acting commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said on Thursday.

The arrest followed complaints from boys that the soldier had lured them into meeting him and raped them in his car, Pol Maj Gen Surachat said.

SM1 Jakkrit used the gay social media app Blued to talk to boys aged under 15. He posted pictures of handsome men as his profile photo to attract the boys.

Then he told boys to send him pictures of their genitals and invited them to meet him. At meetings the boys discovered he did not look like his profile photos. He allegedly raped them after threatening to expose their private pictures, he said.

"The suspect was infected with HIV in 2009 and received treatment in 2015. He was moved to Khon Kaen eight months ago... The suspect kept a record of those he raped.

"The record shows 75 victims. The damaged boys are younger than 15 years and live in many provinces. The suspect has been doing this since he worked in Bangkok," Pol Maj Gen Surachate said.

SM1 Jakkrit was charged with raping minors, indecent assault of minors, separating minors from their parents, and coercing minors to do inappropriate acts.

He had already been dismissed from the military, Pol Maj Gen Surachat said.
