Activist Atchariya Rueangratanapong on Monday asked the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to verify the legal compliance of the Praram 2 Hospital building after accusing hospital staff of rejecting an acid attack victim who later died.

He led the family of late Chorlada Tarawan to file a complaint at the BMA, asking it to check the legality of the hospital's building construction, usage, modification and maintenance.

After Praram 2 Hospital caught fire in 2014, killing one person, it was revealed that no sprinkler system had been installed, Mr Atchariya said. He added that the hospital management had turned part of its parking structure into an outpatient area, which it was then banned from using by the Public Health Ministry.

If the BMA found any legal violations, it should close the hospital building, Mr Atchariya said.

Receiving the complaint, deputy Bangkok governor Thaweesak Lertpraphan said the BMA would investigate the issue carefully.

Last week Mr Atchariya accused the management of Praram 2 Hospital of failing to treat Chorlada, who was rushed to the hospital by her 12-year-old daughter after the woman's new husband allegedly poured liquid acid in her mouth and on her face in a fit of jealousy.

Hospital management claimed the patient wanted treatment at Bang Mod Hospital, where she had medical welfare coverage -- and believing her condition was not life-threatening, a nurse administered first aid and gave the daughter 40 baht for a taxi. She reportedly died on the way.
