Royal invite for diplomats
The Foreign Ministry has clarified its decision not to invite foreign dignitaries from overseas to attend the coronation of His Majesty the King from May 4-6, saying members of diplomatic corps have already received a royal invitation to the special occasion.
The ministry said it was following a tradition put in place for the coronation of King Rama IX in 1950, when the diplomatic corps were granted a royal audience and invited to send their best wishes to the King.
The ministry said the Singaporean ambassador, as a dean of the diplomatic corps and their spouses, would be granted an audience with the King at Baisal Daksin Throne Hall and Amarindra Vinijaya Throne Hall at the Grand Palace on Saturday morning.
In the afternoon, representatives of the corps will be granted an audience with the King at Amarindra Vinijaya Throne Hall.
On Monday evening, other diplomats and their spouses will have an audience with the King.
