NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A migrant worker was rushed to hospital in Hua Sai district of this southern province after his left arm was severed by a winch on a fishing boat on Sunday.

Worachart Rangsimantichat, a member of a charity foundation, said it dispatched a rescue boat immediately after receiving a radio message calling for help from Ro Anuwat 9 fishing boat about 12 nautical miles from the shore.

The rescue boat reached the fishing boat in 40 minutes and rushed the migrant worker, whose nationality and identity were not disclosed, to Hua Sai Hospital for treatment. The man had his left arm pulled off from the shoulder by a winch while working on the boat. The severed arm dropped into the sea and disappeared.

It was not clear how the accident occurred.

Mr Worachat said the migrant worker lost a lot of blood from the serious injury. He was later referred to Maharat Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital.
