SRT opens doors to 1,330 new staff

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced it is hiring 1,330 employees, though the recruitment boost is not nearly enough to make up for staff shortages, says a source at the state enterprise.

SRT deputy governor Sirima Hirunchroenvech said on Thursday the SRT board has approved newly created positions to add to the existing workforce of 14,220 employees, 10,292 of whom are permanent staff and the rest on temporary contracts.

Currently, the SRT is suffering a heavy financial burden from fixed costs including more than one billion baht of overtime.
