Heavy rain, flood warnings still in force

Floods still plague 10 northern and northeastern provinces as the weatherman forecasts more heavy rain and flooding in the Northeast and the East.

Chayaphol Thitisak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said on Thursday that flooding persisted in Amnat Charoen, Khon Kaen, Phetchabun, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Roi Et, Si Sa Ket, Sukhothai, Ubon Ratchathani and Yasothon provinces.

About 1,400 people were evacuated in Amnat Charoen, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Yasothon, he said.

In the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, local officials worried about safety cut off the electricity supply to about 800 houses in several flooded villages in tambon Tha Muang of Don Mod Daeng district.

They were installing about 30 water propellers in the Mun river in Phibul Mangsahan district to speed up floodwater drainage.

The Meteorological Department forecast on Thursday was for heavy rain to continue in the Northeast and the East, with the danger of flash floods.
