Australian found dead in Phuket hotel pool

PHUKET: An Australian man was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in Muang district on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

He was found in a resort swimming pool in tambon Rawai about 6am, Pol Lt Col Prasit Ra-ob, investigation chief at Chalong police station, said. The body was dressed in black shorts and a long-sleeved shirt.

Police investigators learned the man had a bipolar disorder and suffered from depression. He had attempted suicide on several occasions, according to police.

His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Thai media reported that the dead tourist was a former police officer.
