Senior cop accused of trafficking meth pills

The Provincial Police Region 6 yesterday set up a committee to conduct a disciplinary investigation into a senior policeman who was arrested for allegedly trafficking 200,000 methamphetamine pills in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district.

The officer was identified as Pol Lt Col Surachit Tawut, 35, an inspector in charge of investigations at Uthai Thani Provincial Police. Shortly after learning of the arrest, Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, said the Provincial Police Region 6 overseeing Uthai Thani province formed the investigative panel to take disciplinary action against Pol Lt Col Surachit and issued an order to suspend him until the investigation is complete. Few other details were available.

Pol Lt Col Surachit was detained yesterday morning at Tham Pla police checkpoint in tambon Pong Ngam while on a bus to Bangkok.
