Temperatures in the Northeast, the North and the upper Central Plains will drop by 3-5°C from Monday to Wednesday next week as a high pressure system moves in from China, according to the Meteorological Department.

Director-general Phuwiang Prakammin said on Thursday the temperature drop would start in the Northeast and then expand to the North and the upper Central Plains.

The change would occur as a high pressure system from China moves to cover the North and the Northeast, he said.

Meanwhile, more heavy rain is expected in areas of the North, the Northeast, the Central Plains, the East and the South on Thursday and Friday. Roads in downtown Chiang Mai were flooded on Thursday morning.

Over the weekend, heavy rain is forecast for the Northeast, the Central Plains the East and the South, Mr Phuwiang said.

He attributed the heavy rain to the monsoon over the lower North, the upper Central Plain and the Northeast.
