CHON BURI: A Kazakhstani woman, 78, was found dead at Jomtien beach, near Pattaya town, on Thursday morning.

Pattaya police and rescue workers arrived at the beach after being alerted to the body around 11am. Medics performed CPR on the woman but could not revive her.

Earlier, tourists and vendors at the beach saw what looked like person floating in the sea. When they went closer, they saw it was the body of a foreign woman. They took the body to the shore and called police.

Police said the dead woman, identified only as Lida, of Kazakhstan, had stayed with her husband at a hotel on Jomtien beach, not far from where she was found dead. She left the hotel room alone on Thursday morning.  Later, her husband went out looking for her, only to learn she had died. She was believed to have drowned while swimming.

Police said her body would be sent to Police General Hospital’s forensic institute for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
