Sharing experience of water management with Thailand, experts from Israel have said the way forward starts with education and water-saving campaigns.

The head of Israel's Water Security and Emergency Division, Danny Lacker, said Israel's initial step towards easing water tension involved campaigning in various media about how to save water and educating adults and children in schools. After three months, water consumption was cut by 30%.

Israel's ambassador to Thailand, Meir Shlomo, said Israel understands water scarcity, which is why it has developed a variety of cutting-edge water technologies including drip irrigation, water desalination, and recycling.

Israelis no longer have water problems "because we are good at what we do even if we do not have much water", he said.

The ambassador said Israel will hold an event showcasing water-related technology from Nov 18-21.

Among the Israeli know-how is groundbreaking water technology, known as "Watergen", the world's first atmospheric water generator which absorbs air and subsequently converts it into water.

Michael Rutman, vice president of sales and marketing at Watergen Co, Ltd said the machine was "a new source of drinking water". There are filters to remove contamination from the air and to add minerals to the water.

Currently, there are 45 countries around the world that consume water from air through Watergen, including the US, Russia, China and India, Mr Rutman said.
