Thirteen foreigners already blacklisted and banned from re-entering Thailand have been caught at Suvarnabhumi airport thanks to biometric screening procedures, Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang said on Monday.

Pol Lt Gen Sompong said at a press conference in Bangkok that the 13 foreigners comprised one from Korea, four from China, one from Belgium, two from Egypt, two from Uzbekistan, one from Myanmar, one from India and one from Syria.

Pol Lt Gen Sompong did not disclose when those people were arrested, only that they had changed their names, surnames and passports to avoid being detected and that the airport's biometric screening system found they were blacklisted. All 13 of them were arrested and prevented from re-entering the kingdom.

He also disclosed that another group of 10 from Myanmar had been caught violating immigration rules.

Four of them have been charged with being involved in a fake passport scam and four others were charged with illegal entry. They are currently being detained.
