PHRAE: A man was stabbed to death by his wife following a quarrel in Muang district of this northern province on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Capt Narong Sonklin, a Muang police investigator, said a team of police and a doctor from Phrae Hospital rushed to a house at Moo 3 village in tambon Muang Mo on being informed of the incident, which occurred at about 2.30am.

They found Pasin Areewong, 42, lying dead behind the house.  A long knife was found near him on a marble chair.

Kanchakorn Wongsuwan, 47, his wife, told police that she stabbed her husband with the knife.

According to Ms Kanchakorn's account, early on Saturday night Pasin had a drinking session with a number of friends. After the friends left, she and her husband had a quarrel because Pasin did not let her go into the house to sleep and refused to give her the key. During the heated argument, Pasin produced a knife, prompting her to snatch it from him. She then stabbed him before running away, sheh said

While running away, she heard Pasin call for help. On returning, howeverr, she found he was already dead.

She said Pasin frequently battered up after getting drunk.

Pasin was stabbed three times -- once in the left side of the rib cage, once in the chest and once in the abdomen. His body was sent to Phrae Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Ms Kanchakorn was detained for questioning and further legal action.
