CHON BURI: A young South Korean man who was found with multiple stab wounds after being attacked by a male compatriot in Pattaya last month has recovered and offered a reward of 100,000 baht for information leading to the arrest of his attacker.
Park Jinhyung, 28, on Saturday told local media his condition had improved after being treated at Chon Buri Hospital. Since his attacker was still at large, he wanted to offer the cash reward to anyone who had clues leading to the arrest of the suspect, whom he identified as Mr Park, 38.
The attack happened on Sen Rong Moo Road in South Pattaya about 2am on Oct 24. A taxi driver who found the injured tourist told police that the heavily bleeding man stumbled out of the rear seat of a parked white BMW X5 and signalled for help before collapsing.
Surveillance camera footage revealed the victim visited an entertainment venue and then picked up a compatriot Korean in South Pattaya. He was later attacked with 17 stab wounds.
Pol Lt Col Piyapong Ensarn, Pattaya tourist police inspector, said Tourist Police Bureau commissioner Chettha Komolwattana had ordered tourist police across the country to coordinate with concerned agencies to track down the South Korean suspect. Copies of his photo were put up at various places and the suspect was believed to have been in hiding in the country, particularly in tourist provinces of Chiang Mai or Phuket, said Pol Lt Col Piyapong.
