Soi Rang Nam, a popular tourist destination near Victory Monument in Bangkok's Ratchathewi district, will be closed off to traffic for use as a walking street for one weekend each month.
Deputy Bangkok governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said on Friday the street had huge potential as a shopping destination since tourist accommodation had mushroomed in the area.
The street would be closed to traffic for the first time on Feb 15-16 from noon until 10pm, and city authorities would provide space for food and beverage vendors to trade.
Concerts and performances would also be staged in the pedestrianised street, and in nearby Santiphap Park.
