Chiang Mai international airport has suspended all flights between Wuhan and Chiang Mai from Jan 24 to Feb 4 to stem the coronavirus spread, chief of the provincial tourism and sports office Parisa Panprom said on Sunday.

The flights affected are Air China Limited's CA707 (Wuhan-Chiang Mai) 09.05-11.40 and CA708 (Chiang Mai-Wuhan) 12.50-16.55 which operate on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.

Other airlines are not affected.

Mr Parisa said the Chiang Mai tourist assistance centre (TAC) checked with immigration and Thai Airways officials and found that 120 Chinese tourists from Wuhan are scheduled to return to China on Jan 26. An arrangement will be made for them to fly to nearby destinations such as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. All of them have been screened by the disease control checkpoint of Chiang Mai airport.

To step up the preventive measures, the Public Health Ministry has set up a thermoscanner at the airport to screen all Chinese tourists arriving from Guangzhou from Jan 25.

Chinese tourists from Guangzhou arrive on Thai Lion Air Flight SL913 at 06.05 on Monday, Thursday and Saturday; China Eastern Airlines CZ8111 at 07.45 daily from Jan 18 to Feb 10; Spring Airlines 9c8933 at 06.05 on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday; China Southern Airlines CZ8327 at 13.15 daily; and, China Southern Airlines at 18.50 daily.

Any tourist found to have a fever from 38 degrees Celsius or higher will be quarantined. All Chinese tourists will be given a card with an instruction for them to follow in case they become sick and need treatment at the hospitals.
