SONGKHLA: A student stabbed another student with a knife after they began brawling at an occupational college in Hat Yai district on Tuesday, following an exchange of provocative comments on social media, police said.

The confrontation occurred at the Luang Prathan Ratnikorn Industrial and Community College on Kanchanawanich road, Pol Capt Jamorn Ratchawangnuchiet, of Hat Yai police station, reported.

Police and a rescue unit called to the scene found Prinya Chanpoon, 21, a second-year student in the auto mechanics department, lying in a pool of blood on the ground in front of a school building. He had been stabbed. Mr Prinya was given first-aid and then rushed to Songkhla Nakarin Hospital.

Police learned that Mr Prinya was allegedly stabbed by another student, Veerapat Chuaykaew, 20.

The two young men had earlier exchanged nasty comments on a LINE chat group.

About 10.30am, during an exam break, the two students confronted each other outside the building and exchanged harsh words. That led to a fist fight, during which Mr Veerapat allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Mr Prinya in the left side of his ribs. Mr Veerapat fled.

Mr Prinya underwent surgery and was recovering in hospital.

Police were looking for Mr Veerapat.
