Police on Tuesday arrested a well-known lawyer on charges of falsifying and using fake official documents.

Sittha Biabangkerd, also known as Lawyer Tum, was apprehended at his law office in Samut Sakhon's Krathum Baen district under a warrant issued by the Min Buri Criminal Court.

He was taken to a local police station before being transferred to Min Buri police station in Bangkok for questioning.

Mr Sittha is widely known for representing retired policeman Jaroon Wimool in the protracted winning lottery ticket ownership dispute with Preecha Kraikruan, a teacher.

The lawyer posted an account of his arrest on Facebook and denied any wrongdoing.

A Facebook page run by Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, chairman of the crime victims' assistance club, claimed the arrest was linked to a drugs case against actress Amelia "Amy" Jacobs, one of Mr Sittha's clients.

Mr Atchariya, who was once a friend of Mr Sittha and is now a critic, said he had filed a police complaint against Mr Sittha for being involved in fabricating evidence to help his client.

The actress and her boyfriend Punyawat Hirantecha were arrested in Sai Mai district, Bangkok, in September 2017 with 70 grammes of crystal meth, 16 ecstasy pills, scales and drug paraphernalia.

She was found guilty of drug abuse but her boyfriend received 25 years for dealing.
