Police now want to question the son of former deputy commerce minister Pol Lt Col Banyin Tangpakorn, who is suspected of masterminding the kidnap-murder of the brother of a senior court judge, a source close to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) said.

Worapat Tangpakorn became a person of interest after being linked to a house in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district where Pol Lt Col Banyin and the other suspects allegedly met to plan the kidnapping of Wirachai Sakuntaprasoet, brother of senior Bangkok judge Phanida Sakuntaprasoet, who was hearing a criminal case against Pol Lt Col Banyin.

Pol Lt Col Banyin has been arrested along with five other suspects in the case. His wife, Waraporn, and his brother, Flt Lt Chakrawan, have already been summonsed for questioning.

According to the source, the house in question is owned by Ms Waraporn but Mr Worapat is said to have stayed there from time to time. He is also recorded as making a request to use electricity at the house.

Police questioned Ms Waraporn at the time of her husband’s arrest but have summoned her again after evidence emerged that she had ordered her house maid to buy a SIM card that was allegedly later used by her husband and the other suspects in the kidnap-murder case.

Flt Lt Chakrawan was found to have borrowed a Toyota Sport Rider from a person in Phichit for Pol Lt Col Banyin to use in the kidnapping of Wirachai, according to the source.
