SONGKHLA: Nine young people were caught taking drugs and partying to loud music at a house in Hat Yai district on Monday night.

Local officials led by Kathawut Pimsak, an assistant district chief, raided house No 10/3 in tambon Ban Phru about 9.30pm, acting on information it was being used to distribute drugs and as a venue for young people to party.

There were nine young people in the house, seven men and two women aged 18-20 years. They were using drugs and playing loud music, Mr Kathawut said.

A young man who identified himself as Parames, or Nut, 20, admitted it was his house.

Urine samples from the seven young men tested positive for use of crystal methamphetamine, or ice.

The officials searched the house and found five small plastic bags containing a total of 3.11 grammes of crystal meth, 200 empty bags of the same kind, and a set of scales. They also seized nine mobile phones.

Mr Parames allegedly admitted he prepared about 5gm of crystal meth for use at the party and that he sold the drug to young people in the area, according to Mr Kathwut

Mr Parames was charged with having drugs in possession with intent to sell and handed over to Hat Yai police.

As for the other young men who tested positive for drugs, the officials informed their parents before entering them into a rehabilitation process. The two young women were taken home by their parents.
