KHON KAEN: Highway police arrested a woman with 200 kilogrammes of dried marijuana at a checkpoint in Nam Phong district early on Sunday morning.
Pol Col Apichart Pochan, chief of the Highway Police Sub-division 4, said in a press conference that the woman drove a Toyota Vigo pick-up through the highway police checkpoint on Mitrapap Highway in Muang district shortly after midnight.
When signalled to stop, she accelerated away, prompting police to gave chase. Her pick-up was overtaken by a police vehicle at about 1am between kilometres 373-373 on the highway in Nam Phong district.
The police found 200 bars of compressed marijuana, weighing 1kg each, in the pick-up.
The woman was identified later as Sudarat Thongruang, 37, a native of Surat Thani's Tha Chana district. She told police said she was hired by a man called Sakol for 30,000 baht to deliver the drugs from Udon Thani to Bangkok.
She was charged with having illicit drugs in possession with intent to sell and breaking the 11pm-3am curfew.
