NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Parts of Muang district were flooded after heavy rain pounded the area for several hours on Sunday night.

The out-bound lanes of Mittraphap Highway leading to Saraburi were reported flooded. Traffic came to a standstill as many small vehicles stalled in water.

Many low-lying areas in Nakhon Ratchasima township, particularly near Safe-One Market - Thailand's biggest night market - were under water.

Businesses planning to stay open until midnight, to greet the lifting of the curfew, were disappointed as  potential customers were dispersed by the heavy rain.

According to the 5am weather forecast of the Thai Meteorological Department, the strong southwest monsoon still prevails across the Andaman Sea, affecting all of Thailand.

This, in conjunction with a low-pressure cell covering upper Laos and Vietnam, will cause isolated heavy to very heavy rain in the North, Northeast, Central, East and South regions of Thailand on Monday  and Tuesday, the department said.
