KANCHANABURI: A car rammed into the rear of a lorry waiting to make a u-turn, killing its driver and passenger in Muang district on Tuesday, police said.

Pol Capt Sakul Iamboonlue, an investigator from the Muang police station, said the accident occurred at about 8.30am at kilometre marker 10 on a by-pass in tambon Tha Kham.

While a six-wheel Hino lorry was stationary as the driver was waiting to make a U-turn, a Toyota Corolla car rammed into its rear end. The violent impact tore off the car's roof and sent the wrecked vehicle into the roadside ditch.

The driver, Pakorn Sonsa-nguan, 22, from Phra Phutthabat district, Saraburi, died behind the wheel. His friend, Saiyut Lampong, 28, from Nonthaburi's Pak Kret district, was seriously injured.

Prachuap Kongka, 49, the lorry driver, said he was delivering electrical appliances from Bangkok to a department store in Kanchanaburi town.

Police were examining footage of security cameras.
